COLUMBUS, Ohio, August 27, 2019 — Today Moo Moo Express Car Wash announced the donation of $19,380 to the Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana Operation Backpack® Campaign. Monetary donations were collected at all 16 Central Ohio Moo locations August 16-18, 2019 and have been designated to provide thousands of children with new backpacks and school supplies as they return to the classroom.
Throughout the Operation Backpack® Donation Campaign, Moo Moo Express offered a free “Whole Plus” car wash ($13 value) to customers in exchange for a $5 monetary donation. One hundred percent of proceeds benefitted the Volunteers of America of Ohio & Indiana. At the campaign’s conclusion, Moo Moo gave away more than 3,870 free car washes, totaling more than $50,000 at full retail value.
“We’re very proud to give local children— who might otherwise not have the opportunity— the financial ability to experience overnight camp with the YMCA,” said John Roush, Chief Executive Officer of Express Wash Concepts and Founding Partner of Moo Moo Express Car Wash. “Once again, the immense support of our staff and customers produced incredible results and we thank them greatly for their efforts.”
“Our team worked really hard this year to help communicate the need for all children to return to the classroom with the necessary school supplies to facilitate learning,” said John Roush, Chief Executive Officer of Express Wash Concepts and Founding Partner of Moo Moo Express Car Wash. “Our customers definitely answered our call for help, and through their generosity we almost tripled our 2018 campaign donation.”
Each year, Operation Backpack® provides school supplies and backpacks to thousands of homeless and at-risk children. These children face many challenges and tremendous stigmatization – as a result, less than 25% graduate from high school. In 2018, Operation Backpack® helped more than 4,940 children in Central Ohio enter the classroom with new backpacks and school supplies. In the last 13 years, it’s estimated that more than one million pencils have been collected through Volunteers of America Operation Backpack®.
“Thanks to the partnership with Moo Moo Express, we are confident that we will reach our goal of making sure every child in need throughout Central Ohio will head back to the classroom with a fully stocked backpack,” said John von Arx III, President & CEO of Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana.
